This article explores the ways in which GI Bill tuition benefits fall short for many veterans. The author provides statistics which show that a small percentage of veterans utilize the full amount of their projected GI Bill benefits. The article proceeds to discuss how benefits compare with the current costs of higher education. The author also looks at some other factors that contribute to the lack of effectiveness of the GI Bill in promoting higher education for veterans. Finally, some suggested changes to the Montgomery GI bill are also briefly explored.
