Annotation:This article describes parents' overly optimistic attitudes about their children's prospects for winning scholarships. Seventy-two percent of parents surveyed believed their children had skills or abilities that would qualify them for scholarships, yet less than 20 percent of all students acutally receive scholarships based solely on merit.
