Short Description:To help policymakers tackle problems with urban education more effectively, the Education Commission of the States (ECS), with support from the Atlantic Philanthropies, has produced this report. Annotation:To help policymakers tackle problems with urban education more effectively, the Education Commission of the States (ECS), with support from the Atlantic Philanthropies, has produced this report. ECS began this work by bringing together nine urban school district superintendents from across the country to identify key areas that state policymakers should focus on to improve education for urban students. These superintendents were selected because of their districts' documented successes in increasing the academic achievement of students and because of their districts' geographic diversity.
