| Annotation: | Purdue Opportunity Awards (POA) are granted to students with
high financial need and personal hardship or other extenuating circumstances. There is one award for each of Indiana’s 92 counties, and the first recipients enrolled at Purdue in fall 2004.
The award combines with federal, state, and institutional aid to provide funds for tuition, room and board to cover the student’s financial need during their first year of attending Purdue University’s West Lafayette Campus. POA recipients returning to Purdue as sophomores are also eligible to receive up to $2500 to assist with financial needs after federal, state, and institutional aid has been applied. In addition, the Purdue Opportunity Awards Program provides a supportive environment to assist students throughout their first year at Purdue. The program encourages academic excellence, campus involvement, and individual success by providing peer mentors and personal attention to the unique challenges that POA students may encounter.
