Title:ACSFA policy brief: The toolbox and student aid policy
Source:http://inpathways.net/ACSFA_2006.pdf
Date:2006
Organization:
Short Description:Examines the report "The toolbox revisited: Paths to degree completion from high school through college" by Clifford Adelman, addressing challenges to findings in the report that SES is only modestly related to degree completion.
Annotation:This policy brief examines the report "The toolbox revisited: Paths to degree completion from high school through college" by Clifford Adelman, addressing the failure of the report to clarify that students from low SES backgrounds are as much as ten times less likely to follow the educational pipeline from high school through college as are students from high SES families. Policy inferences drawn by the study stating that SES matters only "modestly" to degree completion and that SES related gaps in degree completion can be narrrowed merely by following the path highlighted in the report are also criticized as lacking the support of data and methodology.
