Title:Socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, and selective college admissions
Short Description:Examined the academic characteristics of students at all levels of college selectivity, based on NCES longitudinal data.
Annotation:This study examined the academic characteristics of students at all levels of college selectivity, based on NCES longitudinal data. Findings from the study indicate the potential effects of different college admissions strategies on percentages of low-income and minority students admitted to selective institutions. Recommendations call for the maintenance of existing racial affirmative action strategies, and call for stronger financial aid policies to increase college access for economically disadvantaged students.
