Title:One-third of a nation: Rising drop-out rates and declining opportunity
Short Description:Examines rising drop-out rates, and innovative efforts to lower these rates.
Annotation:This report addresses rising drop-out rates and diminished prospects for high school drop-outs in the changing economy, as well as innovative efforts to improve student retention. Difficulties in developing an accurate measure of the drop-out problem are addressed, and attention is paid to the current state of guidance and counseling, and to current retention and intervention programs. With rising drop-out rates, declines in assisted second-chance education and training opportunities, and deterioration in economic position, the United States has now slipped to tenth place in the world in high school completion rates.
