Annotation:This report summarizes evidence-based strategies that reduce the college access gap for low-income students and for under-represented minority populations. Clear priorities supported by research for reducing the college access gap include: lowering financial barriers to college, better preparing students academically, directing the focus of schools and guidance counselors toward preparing students for college, improving college entrance and financial aid information provided to students, encouraging parental engagement in the college preparation process, and developing more equitable college admissions policies.
