Short Description:This paper provides an overview of student loan forgiveness programs and raises issues for policymakers pertaining to whether these programs are an efficient and effective use of taxpayer funds.
Annotation:While anecdotal evidence may validate notions that loan forgivenss programs address workforce shortages in a number of communities and help professionals with college costs, broad-based longitudinal analysis examining loan forgiveness resource allocation has not been conducted and many fundamental policy questions remain unanswered. This paper provides an overview of student loan forgiveness programs and raises issues for policymakers pertaining to whether these programs are an efficient and effective use of taxpayer funds.
