Title:Demography is not destiny: Increasing the graduation rates of low-income college students at large public universities
Organization:The Pell Institute for th Study of Opportunity in Higher Education
Short Description:A report on a study which seeks to answer the question of what accounts for differences in retention and graduation rates among large public colleges and universities that serve high numbers of low-income students.
Annotation:This report is based on a study designed to answer the question of what accounts for differences in retention and graduation rates among large public colleges and universities that serve high numbers of low-income students. The authors "describe differences in institutional policies and practices, as well as commonalities among the higher-performing institutions." They also examine differences between the findings of this study and a similiar study conducted previously by the Pell Institute. Following this, the authors "consider if practices aimed at improving overall graduation rates also work for low-income students" and offer recommendations for institutions.
